Petroleum Committee member companies provide independent superintendence, analysis, inspection and testing services internationally. The IFIA Petroleum Committee promotes internationally accepted standards in methods, documentation and qualification of companies and personnel.

The IFIA Petroleum and Petrochemical Committee has the following key aims:

  • To improve the professional standing of the Petroleum and Petrochemical Inspection industry (the industry) with clients and official bodies.
  • To provide a single point of contact between the industry and external bodies (clients, government agencies, standards organisations etc.) in order to project the views and experience of the industry and to ensure that these are fully considered when legislation or procedures are being changed or implemented.
  • To obtain and coordinate representation within standards organisations and other bodies involved with the development of codes and standards affecting the industry.
  • To maintain and improve the quality and consistency of the service provided by the industry taking full account of safety, environmental and technical issues as summarised in the IFIA Guidelines.
  • To provide an open forum for members to discuss inspection issues.

In addition to their general requirements as IFIA members, all IFIA members involved in the testing, inspection and certification of Petroleum and Petrochemicals observe a detailed and sector-specific Code of Practice. Please click here to view or download a copy.

Find out more about IFIA’s Petroleum Inspector Certification Programme

The Committee has developed an Inspector Certification Programme which provides Petroleum Inspectors with an independently monitored confirmation of practical training and technical proficiency.  Due to varying local practices and standards, the Committee has two Regional Technical Committees (RTCs) – the Africa, Asia and Europe RTC and the Americas RTC – which produce technical bulletins and administer the ‘local’ Inspector Certification Programmes.

The Committee is also actively involved with a number of API and EI technical committees and regularly issues Technical Bulletins to assist the industry in addressing technical issues as they arise.

Meetings are generally held twice a year. Current Petroleum Committee membership is as follows:

Member companies:

AmSpec, Bureau Veritas Group/Inspectorate, Camin Cargo, Cargo Inspections Group, Geo Chem Middle East, Certispec, Intertek, Saybolt, SGS
