The Government Services Committee provides liaison between IFIA and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and World Customs Organisation (WCO) over the provision of the Preshipment Inspection services provided under Government mandate by IFIA members to certain national governments.
IFIA maintains a List of Programmes subject to these agreements.
IFIA Members providing these services are bound to follow the Code of Practice IFIA 1001 Preshipment Inspection Mandated by Governments. Their conformity with this Code of Practice is confirmed through implementation of the Preshipment Inspection Certification Programme Rules. The membership of IFIA member companies active in pre shipment certification of the Pre Shipment Inspection Sub Committee is governed by the PSI Certification Programme Sub Committee Rules.
The Government Services Committee has also adopted a Code of Practice in relation to Consignment Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA), which is designed to provide confidence to Governments and consumers that IFIA Members implementing CBCA programmes comply with a recognised industry code and are subject to annual audit to ensure such compliance.
